AIIMS Guwahati Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Anatomy and Paediatrics, Two UR Contract Vacancies
AIIMS Guwahati has invited email applications for one Anatomy and one Paediatrics Assistant Professor on contract under Notification 1-74/2022-23/AIIMS/GHY/ADMN./CONT-APPOINT/2560, dated 10 October 2026. Both vacancies are Unreserved (UR), each carries a consolidated monthly payment of ₹1,42,506, and the prescribed application soft copy must reach faculty-recruitment@aiimsguwahati.ac.in by 31 October 2026. The recruitment is not a permanent or regular faculty appointment.
Why the two departments have different eligibility routes
Anatomy accepts two distinct qualification pathways. A medical candidate needs an eligible recognized medical qualification and a discipline-matched MD/MS or officially recognized equivalent, plus three years of teaching and/or research after that postgraduate qualification. A qualifying non-medical Anatomy applicant instead needs M.Sc. (Medical Anatomy), a PhD in the relevant discipline from a recognized university, and three years of teaching/research after the doctorate. M.Sc. alone does not meet the non-medical route, and pre-PhD employment does not automatically fulfil its post-PhD requirement.
Paediatrics is a medical-specialty vacancy. The notice's explicitly listed non-medical qualification, M.Sc. (Medical Anatomy), belongs to Anatomy; it is not an alternative qualification for Paediatrics. A Paediatrics applicant should establish the recognized medical degree, specialty-matched MD/MS (or accepted equivalent), and the minimum three years of post-qualification teaching/research experience. An unrelated MSc/PhD or a different MD/MS specialty cannot be assumed acceptable.
DNB equivalence can change the required experience calculation
The recruitment notice cites the NMC/MCI notification of 31 October 2018 and requires documentary evidence of the relevant DNB equivalence from the competent authority. Candidates trained at institutions covered by the cited paragraphs 2(a) and 2(b) do not need additional experience on that account; for paragraphs 2(c) and 2(d), the advertisement specifies one or two extra years, respectively. Against the usual three-year faculty experience threshold, that can mean three, four or five years, depending on the DNB training-institution category. Verify the exact training hospital's classification and the authority's equivalence document rather than relying only on the DNB degree name.
UR vacancy status and application-fee relief are different questions
The advertised vertical reservation is Anatomy: UR 1; Paediatrics: UR 1. The age ceiling is 50 years on 31 October 2026. The notification explicitly denies routine SC/ST/OBC/EWS category-based age relaxation for applicants competing for these UR posts. It separately specifies PwBD (OH-OL & BL) and qualifying government-servant relaxations governed by the applicable DoPT rules; these are conditional, not automatic for everyone.
The ₹1,500 application fee applies to UR/OBC/EWS candidates, while SC/ST/PwBD candidates and women candidates of any community pay no fee under the express exemption. This distinction is significant: an SC or ST candidate applying for a UR vacancy may still receive the notified fee waiver, even though the ordinary reserved-post age relaxation does not apply. For payable fees, the notice prescribes a non-refundable demand draft in favour of “AIIMS GUWAHATI”, payable at “GUWAHATI”, with the candidate's name and applied-for post written in capital letters on the reverse. Annexure VII expressly lists the original demand draft as a checklist item for applicants required to pay. Since the opening page requires email delivery of a soft-copy application but does not clearly state how to dispatch the physical demand draft, verify the fee instrument's submission handling with the official recruitment cell rather than assuming an unmentioned postal deadline or substituting an online payment gateway.
The contract's real financial and tenure terms
The ₹1,42,506 figure is a consolidated monthly amount, not a seventh-CPC basic-pay band plus a guaranteed second layer of allowances. Income-tax and other statutory deductions can apply. If on-campus accommodation is allotted, the notice permits relevant accommodation deductions from remuneration. The engagement runs for up to one year OR until a regular appointee joins, whichever happens earlier; the initial term may be shorter and any extension remains discretionary. Contract faculty are barred from private practice and other paid assignments, and the standard mutual exit arrangement is one month's notice or permitted payment in lieu. These provisions matter to doctors comparing this role with established consultant/private-practice income.
How to apply without confusing email, interview and fee requirements
- Use the official notification's Annexure I prescribed application format; it preferably asks for a typed Times New Roman, size 12 application. Fill the correct department, include a clearly visible photo/signature, and sign every page, as Annexure VII expressly requires. Enclose self-attested qualification and post-qualification experience evidence.
- Send the soft copy to faculty-recruitment@aiimsguwahati.ac.in on or before 31 October 2026. The notice does not publish a precise closing clock time; do not assume that an unannounced hour applies.
- Apply and pay separately for Anatomy and Paediatrics if eligible for both. The same vacancy and application should not be silently duplicated for two departments.
- For payable applications, follow the official demand-draft wording. The Annexure VII checklist names the demand draft in original, but the PDF does not give a clear physical-delivery arrangement alongside its email-submission direction. Ask the institute how and when the original must be furnished; do not substitute an invented postal or online-payment procedure.
- Applicants in government service, including AIIMS personnel, need employer permission while applying and the prescribed Annexure II No Objection Certificate at the interview; without the NOC they cannot participate, as stated in the notice.
- For an interview only when the institute announces its date, bring original credentials and report by 08:30 AM under the notice's interview instructions. 08:30 AM is not the application deadline. There is no TA/DA for attendance at the interview. No interview date is announced in this notification; monitor the institute for the schedule, any screening test and corrigenda.
Annexure VII documentary checklist: submission risks beyond the degree
The notification package has 18 pages: seven pages of recruitment terms followed by Annexures I–VII. Annexure VII is not an optional extra recruitment: it is the checklist attached to the same 10 October notification. It asks for a signature on each application page, identity/age and schooling records, MBBS/M.Sc. and MD/MS/DNB/PhD certificates as applicable, experience certificates and relieving orders, category and disability records where relevant, Medical Council registration and additional registration where applicable, the original demand draft, employer NOC under Annexure II where applicable, and any applicable bond/relieving documents. Do not submit a generic CV instead of the prescribed Annexure I form.
The prescribed form also requests two specialty referees able to comment from personal knowledge on the applicant's fitness: at least one referee must have worked with the candidate for two years, and the referees must not be related to the applicant. The form asks for publications, impact factors/citations, funded projects and detailed post-qualification service history; these are disclosed profile fields and should be filled accurately rather than replaced with blanket claims of research credentials.
Age-cutoff distinction inside the PDF
The main notification expressly fixes 31 October 2026, the application closing date, for determining maximum age, essential qualifications and experience. Annexure I separately prints a form box for 'Age as on the date of walk-in-interview'. This wording does not replace the main eligibility cut-off. Applicants should preserve both accurately: check eligibility against the closing-date rule; if the interview date is still unannounced at the time of application, seek institute clarification about completing the separate interview-date age field instead of inventing a date. The normal maximum is 50 years; the notice lists SC/ST 5 years and OBC 3 years in its general relaxation table but expressly says no SC/ST/OBC/EWS age relaxation for these UR posts on that category basis. The separate PwBD (OH-OL & BL) ten-year and qualifying government-servant five-year provisions remain subject to applicable rules.
Work assignment is not restricted to a single department building
The contractual appointment may include clinical, teaching and research duties and other assigned responsibilities. The institute says selected faculty may be posted to attached rural or urban health centres for a period it decides. The primary posting is identified as AIIMS Guwahati in the notice, but a particular campus or building is not specified in this notification and should not be represented as PDF-confirmed.
What the selection committee may actually do
Meeting the degree and experience minimum does not guarantee an interview. The institute can shortlist based on biodata and may conduct a screening test if applicant numbers require it; interview and original-document scrutiny follow for those called. The notification does not publish a fixed screening-test date, interview date, written-exam syllabus or marks distribution. Avoid preparing around fabricated dates or a guaranteed written examination.
This October advertisement is a distinct two-department contractual notice, not an extension of the institute's earlier Anatomy-only faculty notices or a combined permanent recruitment. Its decision points are the Anatomy-only non-medical alternative, specialty-specific MD/MS fit, DNB experience-equivalence tier, UR-versus-fee-waiver distinction, email-plus-demand-draft procedure, and the one-year-or-earlier contract.
